Ah, the 1990s. That glorious decade of eyebrow rings, prepaid calling cards, and Blockbuster Video. Landline makes you nostalgic for that great time, when you could go to the movies without fear of a jerk in front of you checking their phone the entire time, like the jerk two rows in front of me during Landline. That lady really knew how to put the divide between then and now into stark relief.

Early on in the third season of ‘Transparent,’ Judith Light’s Shelly interrupts the family chatter at Maura’s (Jeffrey Tambor) birthday dinner to make an announcement. “I too have transitioned,” she says with the glee of a school girl giving the correct answer in class. “I’m coming out! I’m a brand!” she shouts with arms raises high after sharing her social media handles. The camera holds on the reactions of Maura, her girlfriend Vicky (Anjelica Houston), and her friends Davina (Alexandra Billings) and Shea (Trace Lysette) as they shoot glances of shock and shade in Shelly’s direction. Three of those four women understand the weight of coming out, but here Shelly exploits it for her own narcissistic pleasure. But what, exactly, is coming out? Who’s allowed to do it? And once you come out, then what?

The announcement of a fourth season for the Emmy-nominated Transparent also brought with it word that Season 3 would premiere earlier than usual in the year. So it is, that Season 3 has a late September premiere date on Amazon, with the first photos already here.

There are literally dozens of us who miss HBO’s Duplass-fueled Togetherness, but don’t count the pair anywhere off the network just yet. Instead, they’re checking in again to a new anthology series dubbed Room 104, following the comings-and-goings of a solitary hotel room. So, American Duplass Story: Hotel, basically.

So many things are suddenly brought into focus: whether your self-image is accurate or not, where you stand in the hierarchy of your friendships, and, most importantly, whether the bride and groom are really and truly worth the planet ticket and hotel room costs you just forked over. Everyone has been to a wedding where they are the odd person out and found themselves speaking to the childhood babysitter or the Semester at Sea acquaintance while starring longingly at the front of the dining room. It happens to everyone. It will happen to you.

Long before we have a chance to check in with the Pfeffermans for Transparent Season 3, Amazon is making sure Maura has plenty left to explore in her journey. The streaming service’s breakout dramedy has been granted early renewal for Season 4, well-ahead of any Season 3 premiere.

We’ve seen HBO struggling to launch major hits in the last few years, comedy in particular, and now the Duplass brothers’ Togetherness has come apart as well. The second season will finish out on HBO, but won’t live to see a third.

Criminally short in its offering only ten half-hour episodes, Amazon’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Transparent finally set a December premiere for its second season, but only now brings out the first trailer. Jeffrey Tambor is back as the transitioning Maura, while the rest of the Pfefferman’s have plenty new stories to tell of their own.

Netflix has wasted absolutely no time following through on its promise to produce and distribute original films, and their latest deal should make cinephiles pretty happy. The company’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos has just signed with indie filmmaking duo Jay and Mark Duplass for four new movies, which the pair will produce through their Brothers Productions company.

Fall feels barely underway, but the impending winter will bring with it a number of 2015 premieres, from the likes of 'Girls' season 4 to the Duplass' brothers new series 'Togetherness.' Find out when Lena Dunham, the boys of 'Looking' and more will premiere on HBO in the new year!
