We’ve seen John Krasinski put on his Batman voice for Jack Ryan, now let’s see him in action. Amazon drops the first official trailer for its new TV take on the iconic Tom Clancy character, ahead of a 2018 premiere.

You weren’t the only one with a hard time picturing Jim from The Office as CIA hero Jack Ryan, so is Amazon’s first footage enough to convince you? Get a glimpse of John Krasinski as the title character, putting on his best Batman voice to intimidate some insurgents.

We haven’t seen very much from Amazon’s TV take on John Clancy’s Jack Ryan just yet, but all may be revealed at New York Comic-Con. Follow the money in a first teaser for the John Krasinski series, which promises a first full trailer in October.

Every major historical movie comes with a choice. Do you go seek the true story behind the film’s events in an attempt to be well-read prior to its release? Or do you embrace your ignorance  —  albeit temporarily  —  in order to ensure the sanctity of the cinematic experience? It isn’t difficult to find in-depth literature about the film; Wayne State University Press recently re-released The Detroit Riot of 1967, a first-hand account by the former aide to the Detroit police commissioner who now serves as the Dean of Public Affairs at the University of Michigan. In many ways, Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit seems to be setting a historical precedent for the abuse of power stories we see in every city across America.

We thought perhaps John Krasinski’s Amazon take on Jack Ryan had finished its major cast, but with production looming, another major name joins the fray. Film icon Peter Fonda will join the series in a “key” role, beginning with the first episode.

Every director has both a Passengers and an Imitation Game in them somewhere, and let’s hope John Krasinski’s Amazon take on Jack Ryan skews more toward the latter. Passengers director Morten Tyldum will helm the first episode of the new series, which gets production underway in the coming months.

It’s taken awhile for Amazon’s Jack Ryan prequel series to get off the ground, and with John Krasinski in the title role, we’re finally starting to see more cast. First to join the newer, younger, funnier Jack Ryan is none other than Abbie Cornish in a leading role.

Kathryn Bigelow’s currently untitled drama about the 1967 Detroit riots has just added John Krasinski to its considerably talented cast. The 13 Hours star joins John Boyega, Will Poulter, Anthony Mackie, Jack Reynor, Kaitlyn Dever, Jason Mitchell, Algee Smith, Ben O’Toole, and Hannah Murray.

Now that Amazon’s John Krasinski-starring Jack Ryan has a formal greenlight, it’s time to wonder what the new series brings to the table that decades of movies couldn’t. Krasinski himself offers a few hints, including movie-level budgets and stunts, and tackling a new ripped-from-the-headlines issue every year.
