We are going to miss Jon Stewart.

We don’t yet have a clear sense of what The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will look like, and while we’ve heard a few big names suggested prior, our future Daily Show almost looked very different. Not only did the inimitable Amy Poehler (briefly) consider an offer to host, but so too did Chris Rock apparently mull over taking the chair for a time.

In 2015, Black still contributes to The Daily Show on a regular basis with his “Back in Black” segments, making him, at 19 years, the longest running Daily Show staff member. But, will all that change come August 6 when Stewart retires from the show, ushering in the new Trevor Noah era? We spoke to Black as he was promoting Inside Out and he assured us, he’s not ready to leave yet.

Comedy Central won’t wait long for the new guy however, setting South African comedian Trevor Noah’s Daily Show debut for late September with a new teaser.

Jon Stewart has been refreshingly honest in recent weeks about his decision to leave The Daily Show behind, and while we’ll never feel quite ready to say goodbye, we at least have time to prepare. The 16-year anchor has confirmed that he’ll take his final bow as host of The Daily Show this coming August.

However controversial The Daily Show’s run with new host Trevor Noah turns out to be, no one would deny the overall sadness of Jon Stewart leaving the program behind after so many years. Now, Stewart himself has opened up on the decision to retire, getting surprisingly candid about his “depression” over the state of TV news, and yes, the fear of “turd lung disease.”

Hard as it was to say goodbye to Jon Stewart’s time on The Daily Show, the appointment of Trevor Noah grew complicated after uncovering multiple past tweets perceived in poor taste. Now, Stewart steps up to defend his successor, asking viewers to give the South African comedian a chance to earn their trust.

Reaction to Comedy Central choosing South African comedian Trevor Noah as The Daily Show successor to Jon Stewart ran the gamut, though today saw a wave of backlash over less-than-sensitive jokes tweeted from Noah’s account over the years. Now, Comedy Central has stepped in to comment, calling the criticism “unfair.”

The Daily Show and Comedy Central have announced that, after a long search with many rumored candidates, Trevor Noah will succeed the retiring Jon Stewart as the host of the late night program. Noah, a 31-year-old stand-up comedian, has served as a correspondent for the show but, so far, has only made three appearances.
