While we wait for the first official trailer for Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft has released a new image from Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of the hit game series, giving us another look at Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch. Like one of the previously released stills, this one features Lynch in a prison cell, this time tending to some charcoal drawings which may be connected to his time spent accessing genetic memories of his ancestor.

It’s a bit…early…to be banking on a sequel to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film. Justin Kurzel’s movie based on the hit video game franchise doesn’t hit theaters until December, but a new report suggests that New Regency is already plotting a second Assassin’s Creed with Michael Fassbender set to return. While the studio might just be securing their option, it’s also quite possible that Kurzel’s film is that good.

Unlike Duncan Jones’ Warcraft movie, Justin Kurzel’s Assassin’s Creed seems like it may be able to appeal to a wider audience beyond the niche video game fan base. That’s thanks in part to the casting of Michael Fassbender (who doesn’t love that guy?), the hiring of Kurzel, the sci-fi / action genre appeal, and their commitment to using practical effects and stunts when and wherever possible. There are a few reasons to be tentatively excited about the Assassin’s Creed movie — Michael Fassbender is starring in and producing the adaptation, re-teaming with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard for what may very well be the first truly good movie based on a video game. A new image from the film has arrived online, with Fassbender in costume as his character’s 15th century counterpart alongside co-star Ariane Labed.

Marion Cotillard has already proven herself one of the great French actresses of our time, and also one who never ceases to captivate us. In the latest reimagining of Macbeth, Cotillard takes on the Shakespeare tragedy with a sheer, haunting force as Lady Macbeth.

Michael Fassbender is currently in production on Assassin’s Creed, the long-awaited adaptation of the hit video game series. But “Progress requires sacrifice,” or at least that’s what we’re led to believe in the first photo from the set of the film, which reunites Fassbender with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard — and with that kind of talent in front of and behind the camera, we may be looking at the first genuinely good video game adaptation.

Yes, we’re all very excited for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (and The Hateful Eight…and The Revenant), but there’s another film we should all be pumped about that’s hitting theaters this winter: Macbeth. Starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard and directed by Justin Kurzel (who is also directing the pair in Assassin’s Creed), Macbeth just keeps dropping amazing trailers, promising one of this winter’s most visually stunning and dramatically compelling films.
