An animated Popeye movie has been in the works for years, with Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania) attached to direct. But when Tartakovsky dropped out, so did our hopes for the future of this animated revival of the classic character. There may be hope yet, as Ratchet and Clank writer T.J. Fixman has come aboard to draft a new screenplay for the film.
"From a young child I was already destined to make one movie and that movie was 'Popeye,'" says director Genndy Tartakovsky, who has been tasked to make Sony Animation's feature film rendition of the iconic character. While the man behind 'Hotel Transylvania' and his team are hard at work on the animation, the studio has released some test footage to give us an idea of what we can expect.
The cartoon character 'Popeye' is missing an eye, right? He's always got one closed and he is a sailor, so it's likely that he lost one handling hooks, or fighting with some aquatic creature. But even though Popeye can't see stereoscopically, he's getting the animated 3D treatment from director Genndy Tartakovsky.
