With Marvel, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros. each building out their respective superhero franchises over the past few years, we now expect every up-and-coming actor to eventually put on a pair of tights in a summer blockbuster. That’s led to plenty of arguments among fans and film critics about the superhero genre as a whole. Should we be worried that talented actors are locking themselves into a multi-movie contracts at the beginning of their careers? Are we losing out on original stories along the way? It’s an issue that everyone seems to have an opinion on, and certainly one that won’t go away anytime soon.
One of the least funny running jokes in the new Baywatch movie — which is really saying something because there are a lot of unfunny running jokes in the new Baywatch movie — involves these lifeguards constantly inserting themselves into all sorts of situations that fall well beyond their jurisdiction. They refer to laughable old cases that have nothing to do with rescuing drowners, a nod to the old Baywatch TV show that serves as the film’s source material and chief target. But the case the takes up most of the film’s inexplicably expansive runtime (116 minutes! For a Baywatch movie!) is just as absurd, with the lifeguards trying to bring down a drug ring and real-estate swindle centered around their Southern California beach. Ha ... ha?
Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch movie is almost upon us, and as an extra incentive, the film debuted a new trailer today that focuses on Priyanka Chopra’s extremely fashionable villain.
Baywatch continues its advertising campaign with a new set of motion posters to showcase each character that include Dwayne Johnson giving us the finger, Zac Efron getting his tongue stuck to the glass, and Priyanka Chopra being an ice queen.
Much like the warmer seasons, that Baywatch movie continues to come at us right on schedule. A new series of character posters copies one very well-known Game of Thrones phrase almost verbatim, but tweaks it juuust a little bit. Dwayne Johnson and his lifeguard crew are here to assure us that “summer is coming,” and Baywatch is coming right along with it.
It’s officially awards season, and with potential nominee shortlists come presenter announcements. Today, three more stars will join Anna Kendrick and Steve Carell at the Golden Globes, as it was announced today that Viola Davis, Sylvester Stallone, and Priyanka Chopra will join the ranks of the 2017 presenters.
It’s the holiday season, which means cozying up with family to It’s a Wonderful Life for the umpteenth year in a row, or giving and receiving presents from loved ones, or trawling the internet looking for “Happy Holidays!” tweets from your favorite Hollywood celebrities. Yesterday, the cast of the new Baywatch movie, all decked out in seasonally appropriate Santa hats and mistletoe accessories, posted a special Christmas message to their fans.
The scheduled big-screen reboot of Baywatch has currently taken on the following performers: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Zac Efron, True Detective’s Alexandra Daddario, and supermodel Kelly Rohrbach. These master thespians have slavishly honed their craft over decades of careful study, schooling themselves in the minor intricacies of the Meisner technique and the Stanislavski method, rehearsing Shakespearean quotations, tongue-twisting their way through the librettos of Gilbert and Sullivan, and overall, elevating the very practice of screen acting. They’ve all immersed themselves in the work of the greats — Olivier, Brando, Davis, Bergman — and earned their roles through innumerable hours of rehearsal, training, and theory. Additionally, all of these people are phenomenally good-looking, though it would be a gross disservice to Ms. Rohrbach to suggest that she earned this role due to anything other than pure talent.
