This past August brought the welcome news that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly would share the screen in Holmes & Watson, a comic send-up of Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary literary detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick John Watson. Before we go any further, though, let’s all take a moment to revisit Ferrell and Reilly’s magnificent performance of “Con te Partirò” at the motherf---ing Catalina Wine Mixer in Step Brothers.

Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman solo film isn’t the only project about the Amazonian superhero that’s in the works. Sony is developing their own Wonder Woman movie — well, sort of. It’s called Professor Marston and The Wonder Women, and it centers on the iconic comic-book character’s creator, William Moulton Marston, his wife, and their unconventional relationship.

That headline is slightly misleading: Most people aren’t familiar with the name Christine Chubbuck, the subject of the new film from Afterschool and Simon Killer director Antonio Campos. But to her former co-workers, certain morbid corners of the internet, and a handful of cinema fans, her name is synonymous with one of the most tragic and harrowing events in television history. That event is teased to a chilling degree in the first trailer for Christine, starring an absolutely compelling Rebecca Hall in the title role.

Marvel Studios is one of the most successful business ventures in moviemaking history, but not everything is sunshine, happiness, and rainbows behind the scenes. It seems like every time another Marvel movie is announced, a director leaves a previous project citing those two heebie-jeebies-inducing words: “creative differences.” The making of Iron Man 3 was no picnic, as both its director Shane Black and one of its stars Rebecca Hall can attest.

This past weekend, Louis C.K. dropped yet another surprise for fans in the form of a new 67-minute episode of Horace and Pete, seemingly the first in a star-studded new series. Now, the comedian reveals that a second episode will drop as early as this weekend, and for a reduced price at that.

FX’s Louie may be on extended hiatus, but Louis C.K. himself is taking no breaks. The revered comedian surprisingly released the first episode of a new Cheers-type comedy over the weekend, Horace and Pete, starring the likes of Steve Buscemi, Alan Alda, Jessica Lange and more.

Jason Sudeikis was such a great asset to the cast during his stint on ‘Saturday Night Live’ because he had such a versatile persona. He was perfectly capable playing the straight man against the outsized characters the other actors might dream up, but when the time came for him to deliver a punch line or bring the funny for a sillier character (such as the two a-holes he and Kristen Wiig repeatedly portrayed), he always came through. But with his ‘SNL’ days behind him and a full-time career blossoming before him, it seems that Sudeikis has settled into a solid type. He was a game romantic lead opposite Alison Brie in Leslye Headland’s savvy rom-com ‘Sleeping With Other People’ last year, rough around the edges and yet still lovable, and the trailer for his new picture ‘Tumbledown’ nudges him further down that same path.

There are a fair number of scares in The Gift, but the most shocking part of the film isn’t the sudden appearance of a mysterious package or a creepy guy popping out of the shadows; it’s the way the film’s resident creepy guy is slowly revealed as a man with a broken heart and genuine feelings. When he’s introduced, Gordo (Joel Edgerton) gives off an unsettling vibe. His conversations are awkward and stilted; his clothes make him look like a time traveler from the early ’90s. But the more time The Gift spends with him the less threatening he appears — or at least the more threatening his supposed victims become.
