Whether he’s handing a plastic bag full of feces to a dinner party host, trying to coax Ron Paul into a hotel-room gay sex scandal, or getting face-raped by the massive phallus of an elephant while hiding inside the cavernous vagina of a second elephant, Sacha Baron Cohen’s a born button-pusher. His unending search for shock value has now led him to Denmark, the home nation of the excruciating comedy of discomfort Klown. A new item from Deadline notes that the prank-happy provocateur will bring his talents for awkwardness to a remake of the taboo-busting Danish cringe-fest, and more specifically, that foreign distribution rights have been snapped up by Annapurna International.

Sacha Baron Cohen Will Become ‘Mandrake the Magician’
Some funny timing: Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the release of The Phantom, the adaptation of the old comic strip hero created by Lee Falk. Falk was a prodigious talent who also worked as a theater director and novelist; as a comic-strip creator he also founded the long-running strip Mandrake the Magician, about a guy who used his magic powers (like hypnosis, invisibility, levitation) to fight crime. Created in 1934, Mandrake is sometimes billed as the first superhero. (He arrived about four years before Superman’s debut in Action Comics #1.) And 20 years after The Phantom movie, Mandrake will follow his colleague to the screen.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is one of the more curious sequel developments in recent years. Tim Burton’s CGI / live-action Wonderland hybrid (okay, the scales were definitely tipped in CGI’s favor) did fairly well at the box office, but we can thank international audiences for its real success…and for this sequel, which has a brand new trailer filled with wacky characters and lots of cute wordplay involving “time.”

There was a considerable period of time when a new Sacha Baron Cohen movie was a highly-anticipated event, and yet we haven’t seen much marketing for his upcoming spy comedy The Brothers Grimsby. Granted, Cohen hasn’t been very active since The Dictator, and you wouldn’t be wrong for assuming that his waning popularity might have something to do with Sony’s lackluster marketing push — the underwhelming trailers don’t help, either. But a new report suggests that there might be another reason that general audiences aren’t very aware of The Brothers Grimsby, and that reason might be Donald Trump.

Yes, the first substantial look into the 2010 smash’s sequel is here, five long years later and not a moment too soon. Starting with Alan Rickman’s purred opening line, “You’ve been gone too long, Alice,” a possible nod to the unusually long gap separating installments of the franchise, time is the name of the game.

It’s been a while since the pop-cultural mainstream heard from prankish funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen. The humorist known for oafish, deviously irritating characters like Borat, Ali G, and Bruno has been pretty quiet since he took a starring role in 2013’s adaptation of Les Miserables as the greedy slumlord Thénardier...
