Rumors have persisted for years that Lionsgate wasn’t quite done with the Saw franchise — even though the last sequel was titled Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. But titles are meaningless as long as there’s money to be made, and with that pesky Paranormal Activity franchise out of the way (for now), it looks like Lionsgate is reviving the franchise that introduced us to James Wan, Jigsaw and a multi-film timeline so convoluted it would give Quentin Tarantino the spins.

Billy the Puppet has become one of the most recognizable faces in modern horror. But, he’s actually just made up of some scraps that were lying around. Director James Wan made the original Billy puppet himself using papier-mâché, ping-pong balls for eyes and cardboard paper towel tubes for the body. Nonetheless, there is some sort of method to the maddening mythology surrounding puzzle-loving fiend Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), as we discovered upon revisiting James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s genre efforts. Concerned with cancer, revenge, and all sorts of righteous moralizing, the killer’s various machinations are a righteous mess that, on the original’s tenth anniversary, we finally try to clean up, via this rundown of what Jigsaw’s really up to – and why, and how – throughout his insanely elaborate deadly-trap saga.

We've heard some rumblings over the last few years of a possible 'Saw 8,' but after the definitive events at the end of 'Saw 7,' it seemed like the franchise definitely needed to take a breather. Now, for the first time, the producers have spoken out about their plans for a new sequel as we approach the original film's 10th anniversary. And it looks like 'Saw' director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell might just be ready to return to the series they started.
