The Americans

FX’s The Americans seemed understandably chill with the whole Russian invasion thing, but can they handle Paige becoming a full-fledged spy? That’s the question in our first official footage and trailers for the penultimate season, as Paige takes things up a notch with some formal fight training.

Not that a slow Russian invasion of the United States is old news, but The Americans seems pretty casual about the whole thing. Our first look at a Season 5 teaser sees Paige getting pretty comfortable with the whole “Red Menace” thing, which might foreshadow a surprising change ahead.

And lo, FX has descended from upon the mountain to lay out our TV future for the next few months. Schedule-wise, at least, we know know when The Americans and their quaint Russian spy antics will return for Season 5, as well when Archer will enter “Dreamland” in the spring.

FX long-since eased the burden of Americans fans concerned with the show’s fate, giving us almost a full two seasons to wrap up the Jennings’ spy games. Now, sneak a peek at the fifth and penultimate year with some new wigs for Philip and Elizabeth, details on the “slow burn” season and and update on returning characters.

FX’s The Americans still has almost two full seasons to go, but if Season 5 starts feeling a bit bleak, you might be remembering the last time Noah Emmerich and Laurie Holden shared the screen. Both former Walking Dead stars will reunite for The Americans Season 5, as Holden joins in a recurring role.

The fine folk at Honest Trailers rarely get into the TV game (even less often double-dipping), but suffice to say, certain series might take years to make the rotation. No longer, as all the major Emmy 2016 contenders, from The Americans to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt get their own mini trailer parodies!

The Americans was lucky enough to end on its own terms, plotting a final two seasons over an abrupt cancellation, but unless we’re going all Tarantino in the end, outlook is not so good for our Russian spies. That said, star Matthew Rhys has apparently pitched his own vision of the final seasons, with plenty of historical merit, but one FX flatly rejected out of hand.

It’s a strange thought that HBO’s once-controversial Girls will officially say goodbye in 2017, but no stranger than some of the unexpected guest stars from season to season. Where Corey Stoll dropped by last season, another FX leading male will spend some time with Hannah and co., none other than The Americans star Matthew Rhys.

Boy, that was quick. 2016 Emmy nominees were announced this morning, and special presenters Lauren Graham and (a very excitable) Anthony Anderson wasted no time in revealing this year’s crop of nominees. While there was rightfully plenty of love to go around for dramas like The People v. O.J. Simpson and Mr. Robot, and comedy faves Veep and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, there were a few disappointments — namely, where the hell is UnREAL?! Or The Leftovers? Come on, Emmys.

Gee, isn't it nice to not have to wake up at 5:30 A.M. for the 2016 Emmy nominations? Either way, the big announcement is finally here, as presented by black-ish star Anthony Anderson and Gilmore Girls returnee Lauren Graham, so let’s find out what we're all angry about/celebrating this year at the Emmys!
