The Conjuring 2

James Wan is not an exciting filmmaker because he made the outrageously entertaining Furious 7 – he’s an exciting filmmaker because he made Furious 7 and then gladly stepped back to his horror roots to film The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. So we look upon the first images from the set and celebrate. Wan may be moving into the blockbuster big leagues, but he’s not going to forget about the genre that made his name.

The Conjuring was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2013, the rare modern horror movie to strike that perfect balance between crowd-pleasing mainstream fare and nerdy, genre-specific detail. Casual horror fans loved it. Hardcore horror fans loved it. A sequel was announced almost instantly. Now, two years later, we have our first real shred of evidence that the second cinematic case of Ed and Lorraine Warren is actually, truly happening.

We talked to Wan about what changed in Furious 7 after Paul Walker died, whether he'd return for Fast and Furious 8 and what he wants to do with The Conjuring 2.

Following the debut of the first trailer for the James Wan-produced ‘Demonic,’ comes some more Wan-centric news: it was recently revealed that the director is heading back behind the camera for ‘The Conjuring 2,’ but first the script for the upcoming sequel will receive a rewrite. New Line and Wan have just brought on ‘Wrath of the Titans’ scribe David Leslie Johnson to help polish the spooky screenplay.

Now that James Wan is free to return to direct 'The Conjuring 2,' and after a little release date shuffling, New Line has decided to move the upcoming sequel onto some prime movie real estate: 'The Conjuring 2' will hit theaters in the summer of 2016, as New Line looks to duplicate the success of the first film, which hit theaters in the summer of 2013.

In news that should delight horror fans, 'The Conjuring 2' has officially secured the return of director James Wan. His involvement with the sequel was up in the air since he left horror behind to direct 'Fast and Furious 7,' but the genre that gave him his start has pulled him back in ... and we're happy to have him back.

For those excited about a sequel to James Wan's incredibly successful -- and incredibly spooky -- horror flick 'The Conjuring' (and you can totally put us in that camp), you'll have to wait a little while longer. The sequel, which was previously scheduled to hit theaters in October 2015, has been delayed a whole year, while an untitled horror film has now taken its place.
