Hey Croods… you’re coming back…Universalllll has revived your sequel…. Yes, that’s right folks, DreamWorks and Universal’s animated caveman family is getting another movie after all, as Universal has officially revived The Croods 2 and given it a September 2020 release date.
Hey, you remember The Croods? Maybe not. In 2013, DreamWorks Animation released an animated comedy about a family of cavemen (cavepeople?) who are forced to survive in the wilderness after their home is destroyed. As far as kids’ movies go, The Croods wasn’t terrible, and did come with some A-list voice talent in Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds. Most importantly, though, it made a tremendous amount of money, earning half a billion dollars worldwide and kicking off immediate plans for a sequel.
Though DreamWorks Animation has had some hits ('Shrek 2,' believe it or not, is one of the top ten highest grossing films of all time), their last film at Paramount ,'Rise of the Guardians,' was such a flop that it caused the studio to reduce ranks. Fortunately that may have just been some bad luck as their most recent film 'The Croods' is so successful that the studio has just announced a sequel.
