There was only one way The Crown pay scandal would end well, and Left Bank Pictures may finally have made good. Reports indicate star Claire Foy received retroactive pay to balance her leading role with that of co-star Matt Smith.

At long last, Matt Smith has something to say about out-earning his queenly co-star. The former Crown Prince is glad Claire Foy’s lower pay started an international dialogue about salary parity, and hints the studio may even have put the two on an even keel.

The Crown producers sought to mitigate controversy around Claire Foy and Matt Smith’s pay, but what of the stars themselves? Foy has finally issued a queenly response, while co-star Jared Harris wants Left Bank Pictures to cut a check for the “embarrassment.”

The Crown is issuing a royal apology. Just days after producers created an uproar with word that Matt Smith received better pay than his queenly co-star Claire Foy, production company Left Bank Pictures apologizes to both for a “media storm” that was “no fault of their own.”

The Crown’s Prince Philip may struggle to live in Queen Elizabeth’s shadow, but you’d never know it by their paychecks. Producers admit that star Matt Smith was payed a kingly sum more than the actual Queen, Claire Foy, but vow to correct that in future seasons.

Much as we love to imagine historical figures sitting down to watch their fictionalized selves, there’s no way the real Queen Elizabeth II actually watches The Crown, right?
