If you‘ve seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show (or even just the poster for the movie) you’ve seen those famous disembodied lips, which sing the song over the film’s opening credits. But did you know the lips belong to actress Patricia Quinn, who also plays Magenta? It’s true - but that’s not Quinn’s voice emanating from those bright red lips. In fact, the voice you hear is that of Richard O’Brien, the creator of The Rocky Horror Show and the actor who plays Riff Raff. We haven’t reported much on FOX’s Rocky Horror Picture Show musical event, much less any other network’s wacky musical remakes, but when you have news as good as the brilliant casting of original Rocky Horror vet Tim Curry as the show’s narrator…well, that’s news that’s just too good to ignore.
Remaking musicals on the small screen has become a bit of a trend in the last couple of years, with NBC’s live versions of Peter Pan and The Sound of Music, and re-dos of The Wiz and Grease on the way. But there’s one musical update that’s definitely got our attention: FOX’s remake of 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s not the first remake (and likely won’t be the last), but it is the only remake with Orange Is the New Black breakout star Laverne Cox on the roster.
