After Josh Boone’s plans for a new Vampire Chronicles film adaptation (possibly starring Jared Leto) fell through, Paramount and Anne Rice decided to take the author’s beloved novel franchise to the small screen. Last year, the studio announced that it had optioned the rights to Rice’s 11-book collection for a new TV series, which has been officially picked up by Hulu.
Disappointed though we were to see Bryan Fuller leaving both Star Trek: Discovery and American Gods, the writer-showrunner has a habit of amazing rebounds. Now, Paramount TV reveals that Fuller is consulting on Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles TV adaptation, and may even stay on to showrun.
Some months back, we learned legendary author Anne Rice had in mind to shepherd a Vampire Chronicles TV series of “the highest quality,” and it looks like Paramount is ready to sink their teeth in. All eleven novels have officially been optioned for TV adaptation with Anonymous Content, and a familiar writer at the helm.
The TV vampire craze seems more or less behind us, especially after The Vampire Diaries comes to a close in 2017, but could Anne Rice’s original bloodsuckers bring it back? We might find out, as rights to The Vampire Chronicles are officially primed for a TV series of “the highest quality,” according to the author.
Over the last few days, Josh Boone shared some photos seemingly unveiling his lineup for X-Men spinoff New Mutants, but that’s not the only thing he revealed. The director of The Fault in Our Stars also posted a photo of the title page for his screenplay for the reboot of Interview With the Vampire. Boone followed that with another photo update, which may or may not be part of some weird joke. It’s kind of hard to tell with social media sometimes, you know?
Seems like Universal is dead serious about their horror plans: in addition to rebooting 'The Mummy' franchise and their classic famous monsters, the studio has taken the rights to Anne Rice's 'The Vampire Chronicles' -- and yes, that means we'll likely see a new version of 'Interview with the Vampire' sometime in the near future.
