For as much denial as we’re under regarding Jon Stewart’s final Daily Show week, one has to wonder how Trevor Noah will fill the seat with his September premiere. Thankfully, not everything about The Daily Show will change with Stewart, as the old guard of executive producers will remain through Noah’s tenure.

As Jon Stewart winds down his tenure on The Daily Show, more and more names have emerged from Comedy Central shortlists ahead of Trevor Noah. Red-hot comedienne and perfect human Amy Schumer seems also to have been offered the gig, though the Trainwreck star declined a “safe” option for her blossoming career.

Not only did the inimitable Amy Poehler (briefly) consider an offer to host, but so too did Chris Rock apparently mull over taking the chair for a time.

In 2015, Black still contributes to The Daily Show on a regular basis with his “Back in Black” segments, making him, at 19 years, the longest running Daily Show staff member. But, will all that change come August 6 when Stewart retires from the show, ushering in the new Trevor Noah era? We spoke to Black as he was promoting Inside Out and he assured us, he’s not ready to leave yet.

Now, Stewart steps up to defend his successor, asking viewers to give the South African comedian a chance to earn their trust.
