Uncharted

With Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Smokin’ Aces) recently onboard the project as a screenwriter, it looked like the Uncharted movie was off to a good start. But on Friday the film was taken off of Sony Pictures’ release calendar.

Sony has been trying to get an Uncharted movie made for years now, but despite the revolving door of directing and writing talent, the studio has been unable to get the video game adaptation off the ground. When Zero Dark Thirty scribe Mark Boal was hired back in 2014, it seemed like Sony was on the right track, but it looks like they’ve gone back to the ol’ drawing board (again), tapping Bad Boys 3 director Joe Carnahan to deliver a new screenplay.

Sony has been putting in some serious effort to ensure that their big screen adaptation of the 'Uncharted' video game is actually good. Over the years the project has attracted names like David O. Russell, Joshua Oppenheimer, and David Guggenheim, and Mark Wahlberg was attached to star at one point. The latest name to board the project is screenwriter Mark Boal, writer of 'Zero Dark Thirty' and 'The Hurt Locker,' and as a bonus, Boal is a fan of the video game on which the film is based.

With Comic-Con 2014 less than 24 hours away from its grand start, the internet is a flurry of missed flights and scheduling headaches and excitement and worry and Hall H line preparation and ... release dates? Yep, the studios are capitalizing on the Comic-Con excitement to announce the release dates of some very geek-friendly films and Sony took the chance to let everyone know when they'll be able to see 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3,' 'Sinister Six' and 'Uncharted.'

It's been a long time since we've heard anything new about an 'Uncharted' movie, with many directors having circled the project. But now Sony has hired 'Horrible Bosses' and 'Identity Thief' helmer Seth Gordon to take on adapting the video game franchise for the big screen.

A new Uncharted game is officially coming to the PlayStation 4. The only question now is whether or not we'll see Nathan Drake and his climbing skills again.

The Uncharted movie has been in development for a while, but it just can't seem to get off the ground. Now it's been revealed that Naughty Dog has been asking Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to write the script.

Sony Pictures haven't given up just yet on the idea of turning 'Uncharted' into a film. Though they've been through at least two directors, they've now got a new writing team: Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, best known for their work on the 'National Treasure' movies.
