And so it begins: HBO has revealed the first official look at Watchmen, Damon Lindelof’s upcoming series based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ beloved graphic novel of the same name.
With Damon Lindelof at the helm and a cast that includes Regina King, Tim Blake Nelson and Don Johnson (among others), it’s difficult to deny the appeal of a new take on Watchmen — no matter how beloved Alan Moore’s original graphic novel remains. Today brings yet another reason to get excited for Lindelof’s continuation of the classic comic, as Jeremy Irons has also signed on for the HBO pilot, which is currently filming in Georgia.
After the brilliance of The Leftovers, it’s hard to be mad about Damon Lindelof tackling something as sacred (to most comic book fans) as Watchmen. As evidenced by yesterday’s lengthy Instagram post, Lindelof is gearing up for production on his latest HBO endeavor, and today brings word of the first official casting news for the upcoming series — which, by the way, is not a direct adaptation.
We still don’t know what LOST and Leftovers boss Damon Lindelof’s new Watchmen series actually is, but it’s at least in good hands. The hotly-anticipated pilot officially has its director, as a key Leftovers alum goes behind the camera to kick off a new midnight watch.
We don’t yet know what corner of the Watchmen universe Damon Lindelof will plumb for his new HBO series, but it’s worth wondering what relevance the story has in 2017 regardless. Now, Lindelof provides our first hints at what story the new Watchmen will tell, claiming “These are dangerous times, and we need dangerous shows.”
We’re one step closer to watching the Watchmen. After Leftovers boss Damon Lindelof tipped that a writers room had opened for his new take on the Alan Moore comic, HBO confirms the series has a pilot order, and is already looking beyond.
