'The Walking Dead' season 4 will likely play its cards close to the chest right up until the October 13 premiere, but that won't stop AMC, cast and crew from hacking off a few spoilery tidbits here and there. The latest from the zombie killer-thriller further teases a new threat Rick's group will come to face, along with the Governor's journey through the coming year, and a new character from 'Veronica Mars' and 'Smallville' star Kyle Gallner!

Via IGN, we've discovered a host of new details from 'The Walking Dead' season 4, some of which have been right in front of our faces all along. Kyle Gallner's role in particular was glimpsed among the initial Comic-Con 2013 trailer (the only unrecognized character entering the BigLots), though Scott Gimple teases that the character Zack will have a romantic relationship with one of the other characters. "That's a way very quickly that you get to know him. He's not one of our major new characters, but you get to know a lot about him real quick."

But what of the Governor, who may well get his own standalone episodes this coming season, but wasn't anywhere to be found in the recent trailer? David Morrissey jokingly revealed, “I was playing the horse,” before offering up a real insight into the Governor's S4 path:

He's in a deeply traumatic place. He's got issues. He's psychopathic. I don't think he does those things without consequence to his soul. He does them and they take a toll on him. He has to carry that burden. The great thing for me and this season coming up is that the writers have written some great complex things for me to do, and I'm relishing it.

In particular, Gimple offered up that the Governor's final season 3 act of slaughtering his own people may have destroyed the last of his humanity, as we don't see the character express any real reaction to his heinous crime thereafter. And speaking of humanity, what of this new threat we've heard so much about, apart from walkers or other human factions? We thought we had a guess, though we're not sure what to make of Gimple's words, “It's a force that you can't just stab in the face, you can't talk reason to."

Regardless, executive producer and FX guru Greg Nicotero assures that fans will know of the new 'Walking Dead' threat by the end of the October 13 premiere, "30 Days Without an Accident." Personally, we like Norman Reedus' elegant suggestion, "Sharknado."

While we await the latest details from the fall premiere, the next run of ‘The Walking Dead’ will introduce ‘The Wire’ star Lawrence Gilliard, Jr. as comic character Bob Stookey, and upgrade actors Chad Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emily Kinney to series regulars. AMC earlier confirmed that Morrissey would also return in season 4 as a series regular, while the horror-drama is confirmed to have begun casting three new roles exceptionally familiar to comic fans.
