‘Anna and the Apocalypse’ Trailer: The ‘Shaun of the Dead’ Musical You Didn’t Know You Wanted
We love zombie movies, we love comedies, we love movie musicals, but what if the three genres were combined?? It’s Shaun of the Dead meets High School Musical in the new Anna and the Apocalypse, which looks like a must-see simply for the sake of finding out whether it all actually works.
The film stars Ella Hunt as Anna, whose life turns upside down when her town’s Christmas preparations are interrupted by a bloodthirsty zombie horde. Oh, and there appears to be singing. Lots of it. The movie is based on the BAFTA-winning short film Zombie Musical, whose late director Ryan McHenry shares a screenwriting credit in the feature version. Anna an d the Apocalypse was directed by John McPhail and shot entirely on location in Scotland.
Here’s the synopsis:
Anna’s (Ella Hunt) life is dominated by the typical concerns of her youthful peers until the Christmas season in her small town brings not Santa, but an outbreak of the undead in this genre-mashing holiday horror musical. Yep. Musical.
Anna and the Apocalypse also stars Mark Benton and Game of Thrones’ Paul Kaye, and will premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas this Friday.
