Monday Morning Critic: The Return of ‘The Americans’
Welcome back to another installment of the Monday Morning Critic. In this space each week, I’ll be looking at the week that was in addition to the week ahead in television. The format will shift each week, as the world of TV will dictate the form and content of each piece.
In this week’s installment: a review of the third season of ‘The Americans’ and a look at a recent example the true power of long-form narrative on TV.
‘The Flash’ Review: “Revenge of the Rogues”
It feels like forever since ‘The Flash’ last aired an original episode, so it’s great to finally have this entertaining show back on the air. It’s also a month later in the fictional world of the show when things start back up tonight in “Revenge of the Rogues,” and it seems as if Barry Allen and company are still nursing their wounds from the events in “The Man In The Yellow Suit.” But while plenty of people are hurting in Central City, ‘The Flash’ shows no signs of losing its light touch in the all-too-often dark world of Hollywood comic book adaptations.

Monday Morning Critic: Is Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ Any Good?
In the past, I’ve taken an approach towards pilots that I will occasionally deploy here in the ‘MMC’: The 5 Questions And 500 Words approach. The title pretty much serves as a descriptor: Instead of overloading both you the reader and I the critic with an avalanche of words about all major pilots about to premiere, I’ll cut to the chase as quickly as possible in order to save you time and me some sanity. It’s hopefully a win-win situation. With that in mind, here are three such reviews about showing premiering over the next seven days.

‘The Flash’ Review: “The Man in the Yellow Suit”
In honor of the Fall finale of ‘The Flash,’ I thought I’d steal a page from fellow ScreenCrush writer Mike Ryan and ask twenty questions about tonight’s episode, “The Man In The Yellow Suit.”
Did the reveal of The Reverse-Flash make any sense?

‘The Flash’ Review: “Flash vs. Arrow”
Well that was a LOT of fun.
There are times to get super serious in the world of episodic reviews, and there are times to pass around a few beverages and raise a glass. I don’t know if this was the “best” episode of ‘The Flash,’ whatever that word really means, but it was almost certainly the most entertaining. As light on its feet as The Flash (and ‘The Flash’) has ever been, ‘Flash Versus Arrow’ delivered on the promise of its title and provided some pulpy thrills while also providing conflict for future installments.
