Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in talks to join 'The Mortal Instruments,' based on the young adult novel by Cassandra Clare, which already boasts Lily Collins in the lead role.

'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' is the latest in a string of young adult fantasy fiction adaptations. This one is about a young woman (Collins) who discovers she is the descendant of the Shadowhunters, half-angel warriors whose job it is to protect the world from demons. But with great power comes great responsibility and all that jazz.

According to THR, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in negotiations to star as Valentine Morgenstern, which is sadly not the name of a financial analyst who moonlights as a drag queen. Morgenstern is a powerful Shadowhunter hell-bent on making the world pure by any means necessary, which sounds similar to Tilda Swinton's Gabriel in 'Constantine.' (Yes, we went there.)

Rhys Meyers would be joining a pretty solid cast that includes 'Game of Thrones' and 'Dredd' star Lena Headey, 'Mad Men''s Jared Harris, and Kevin Zegers. Rhys Meyers is known for his roles in Showtime's period drama series 'The Tudors,' last year's 'Albert Nobbs,' and the upcoming television series 'Dracula' for NBC, which is said to be a twist on the classic horror tale.
