The new trailer for 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' is surely going to delight fans of Cassandra Clare's ongoing young adult book series, but what about the rest of us schmucks? From what we can tell, the new movie looks like a combination of 'Twilight,' 'Harry Potter' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' but without any of the aspects that made those franchises worth talking about (yes, even 'Twilight' had its moments). We clicked play on this trailer knowing nothing and when it ended, we were only baffled.

From the many previously released trailers, we can tell you that the first 'Mortal Instruments' movie (yes, more are on the way) tells the story of Clary (Lily Collins), who learns that she is a human with a streak of angel in her and is, therefore, destined to battle demons as a "Shadowhunter." Naturally, she gets to partner up with a hunky guy (an actor who was also one of the Volturi in 'Twilight') to learn the ropes of her new job, and there is presumably a certain amount of sexual tension as they learn to slay together. Meanwhile, the likes of Lena Headey, CCH Pounder and Jared Harris show up to class up the joint.

Maybe we're just not the target audience for this thing, but 'The Mortal Instruments' definitely gives off a "been there, done that" vibe. However, we hope to be proven wrong. What do the fans think? Please let us know how incorrect we are about this series in the comments below!

'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' arrives on August 21, 2013. It promises to be the first of six(!) movies.
