The next film from visionary Primer and Upstream Color director Shane Carruth isn’t just happening — it’s lined up a seriously impressive roster of talent: Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Radcliffe and more have joined the lineup for the elusive and enigmatic filmmaker’s latest, meaning we won’t have to wait too much longer for a new Carruth project.

For those of you familiar with Shane Carruth’s work, then a report suggesting that the elusive director is working on a new film is incredibly exciting. Carruth has only directed two films to date: the 2004 time travel movie Primer, and the surreal 2013 sci-fi drama Upstream Color. Although his last attempt at working within the studio system didn’t pan out, Carruth is attempting to give it another try with his next project, described as a big budget nautical adventure film.

This week sees the release of ‘Jupiter Ascending,’ the latest sci-fi adventure from Andy and Lana Wachowski. And while in all likelihood ‘Jupiter Ascending’ will not go down in history as one of the great works of its genre, the occasion of a new sci-fi epic from two of the modern masters of the form seemed like a good time to assess and celebrate the recent highlights of science fiction cinema, which has taken audiences from the furthest reaches of the cosmos to the deepest recesses of the human mind.

After a too-long delay, writer/director Shane Carruth is back with a follow-up to his time travel indie flick 'Primer.' The first trailer for 'Upstream Color' is mesmerizing and intense, and certainly appears to be a worthy sophomore effort.
