This fall production begins on not one, but two highly anticipated action film sequels (both titled after their protagonists): Jack Reacher 2 and John Wick 2. Today brings an update on the former, as director Ed Zwick has formally begun production on Jack Reacher 2, adding a couple of new cast members and giving the sequel an official title.

Back in May, we learned the glorious news that Tom Cruise is returning for Jack Reacher 2, re-teaming with The Last Samurai director Ed Zwick for the action sequel. Things have been quiet since then, but a new report reveals that Cruise and Zwick will begin filming the sequel sooner than you may have assumed.

Rejoice, Tom Cruise fans and dads everywhere! Jack Reacher, Cruise’s exceedingly satisfying adaptation of Lee Child’s popular literary hero, is getting a sequel. Deadline reports that Cruise will return for Jack Reacher 2, and in doing so will reteam with The Last Samurai director Ed Zwick and producer Marshall Herskovitz. Zwick and Herskovitz will reportedly rewrite the existing Jack Reacher 2 script by Richard Wenk, and Zwick will ultimately direct the film.

The story of Bobby Fischer and his famous chess match with Boris Spassky is stuff of nerd legend. It's surprising no one's made a movie about it before, but now Edward Zwick is attached to direct, and Tobey Maguire as Fischer is set to produce and star in 'Pawn Sacrifice,' which will cover the match.
