It’s taken some time for HBO miniseries Criminal Justice (now The Night Of) to go to trial, after John Turturro replaced Robert DeNiro in a role intended for James Gandolfini, and now a familiar first trailer arrives for the July premiere. There’s a long bright dark ahead for the criminal HBO drama, but maybe time’s just a flat circle, man.

A few months back, word broke that Apple would enter the scripted series game with a new drama loosely based on Dr. Dre’s life, dubbed Vital Signs, though the tech empire had nothing to say. Now, actor Sam Rockwell confirms his presence in the cast, as well as cast members like Ian McShane and Michael K. Williams, as well what we can expect from the surreal new series.

Where The Purge was a bit more of an intimate, home invasion-style thriller, The Purge: Anarchy expanded the sandbox with Frank Grillo’s Sergeant, a man out for revenge who gets unwittingly caught up in saving the lives of other people instead. Last week we learned that Grillo will be back for The Purge 3, and while a formal plot has yet to be revealed, the actor teases more political elements and a very dangerous mission.
