Welcome back to another installment of the Monday Morning Critic. In this space each week, I’ll be looking at the week that was in addition to the week ahead in television. The format will shift each week, as the world of TV will dictate the form and content of each piece. In this week’s installment: what makes the ratings for ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ so important, and a Q&A about this week’s premieres.

Most of the major networks have already put forward their fall 2014 schedules, but fourth place is hardly bad press for FOX, given all their promising new series on deck. The full fall premiere list has arrived, plotting 'Gotham''s batty debut ahead of the much-hyped 'Family Guy'-'Simpsons' crossover, while 'Glee''s final farewell and more have been pushed to midseason.

It's always a sad day when we have to say goodbye to some of our favorite 'SNL' cast members, much as the past year saw the likes of Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis and Bill Hader all departing the long-running sketch comedy series. This past season's finale didn't include any explicit goodbyes, but may in fact have been the confirmed exit of series star Nasim Pedrad, as she moves on to a new FOX series.

Earlier today FOX offered up a few new tidbits about the 'Gotham' premiere this fall, as well as its initial fall 2014 schedule, but why stop there? In addition to a new behind-the-scenes look at its forthcoming Batman prequel drama, FOX has revealed the first looks at 'Office' vet Rainn Wilson's 'Backstrom,' M. Night Shyamalan's TV debut 'Wayward Pines,' 'Broadchurch' remake 'Gracepoint' and more

Earlier today we found out that FOX's 'Gotham' would occupy the Monday slot alongside 'Sleepy Hollow' season 2, but that proved among the least surprising choices for the upcoming season.
