Every now and then, another band hires a well-known film director to make a music video for them. Paul Thomas Anderson’s are probably the most well-known, since he’s done videos for Fiona Apple, Radiohead, and now HAIM. This weekend, a new music vid for Manchester Orchestra’s “The Sunshine” hit the web, and it’s just as weirdly sweet and sweetly weird as can be expected from its directors, the Daniels of Swiss Army Man.

There is a quote from ScreenCrush in this Swiss Army Man, calling it “A fart-fueled adventure.” Technically, Erin Whitney called it “a bizarre fart-fueled adventure.” And the trailer does look pretty bizarre, what with Daniel Radcliffe’s rotting corpse farting and being used as a jet ski and, his erection being used by Paul Dano as a crude compass of some kind. Who says cinema is dead? As long as their is life in Daniel Radcliffe’s rotting corpse’s erection, the moves can never die.

Among the hottest topics of conversation at Sundance back in January was a picture by the name of Swiss Army Man, or as it was commonly referred to, “the farting corpse movie.” Described by Variety as “Cast Away meets Weekend at Bernie’s as directed my Michel Gondry,” the singularly weird picture casts Paul Dano as Hank, a man marooned on a desert island who has officially exhausted all his option

Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation has been the talk of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival over the past week, from its premiere on January 25 to its record-breaking sale to Fox Searchlight for $17.5 million. We may very well be looking at an early Oscar contender for next year's awards, as Parker's telling of Nat Turner's slave rebellion has left a huge impression on critics and audiences at the festival. The film won both the Grand Jury and Audience awards at Sundance, with Anthony Weiner doc Weiner picking up the Grand Jury documentary prize, and Swiss Army Man grabbing a Jury award for Best Directing.

If you’ve heard anything about ‘Swiss Army Man’ then you already know one very important detail: Daniel Radcliffe is a farting corpse. That may be enough to make you stop reading and decide this film isn’t for you. After all, there were walkouts during the premiere on Friday night (though when aren’t there walkouts?). But wait, there is more to this completely nutty adventure of hypnotic imagery and childlike fantasy. If you’re intrigued by the idea of how such an obscene and immature level of humor can give way to one of the most enjoyably bizarre, confounding and visually inspired movie-watching experiences, then bear with me.
