Good news and bad news, David Lynch fans: The good news is that the new season of Twin Peaks is so close you can almost taste the cherry pie glaze – but the bad news is that in a new interview Lynch has said, definitively, that he doesn’t plan to make any more movies.

The jury’s out on whether we’ll see an actual Twin Peaks trailer before Showtime premieres its May 21 revival, and even the last promo only gave us shots of the town itself. Thankfully, those characters you like are coming back in style, with some actual (albeit absurdly cryptic) footage of new Twin Peaks!

Our first official glimpse of Showtime’s Twin Peaks couldn’t even get David Lynch to confirm cast were playing their old roles, so a trailer seemed out of the question. Thankfully, a new promo for Showtime’s May revival may actually grant us a look at the town of Twin Peaks in 2017, and all the ominous secrets therein.

Good morning! Chances are that you’re just getting up and at ’em now, but a few time zones ahead in sunny France, the film industry has had a busy day. This morning saw the official announcement of the Cannes Film Festival’s class of 2017, with the full Competition and Un Certain Regard slates announced by head honcho Thierry Frémaux in a live press conference in the wee small hours of this morning. As ever, the Competition lineup (the most prestigious program in the world’s most prestigious film festival) boasts a deep roster of cinema’s most respected auteurs, ready to pull back the curtain on some tantalizing-sounding new projects. But let’s not talk around the real news here: Adam Sandler’s going to Cannes, baby.

Close to thirty years will have passed when Twin Peaks resurrects on Showtime, to say nothing of how broadcast and cable standards have changed. Still, don’t expect the 2017 revival to undergo any graphic overhaul, as Showtime bosses reveal David Lynch is “taking advantage of cable freedoms,” but “David’s pretty clean.”

At this point, we’ve no idea what to expect from Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival, particularly if David Lynch will allow for any real trailer. All the same, our first official look at the cast’s grand return is here, along with a few scant new details of the “feature film in 18 parts.”

It was this very day, twenty-eight years gone, that Agent Dale Cooper first entered the town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of Laura Palmer. As such, Showtime would very much like to remind us of that fact in time for its May revival, spotlighting the pair in two new posters.

Twin Peaks has lost yet another of its returning Showtime cast, as star and co-creator Mark Frost’s father Warren is no longer with us. The Twin Peaks coroner and sometime Seinfeld star has passed away at age 91.

The way Twin Peaks promotion has gone so far, neither Showtime nor David Lynch are likely to give up too many details (or footage) before the May premiere. That said, a few new teasers of Showtime’s revival catch us up to speed on the major bookending events of the series, to say nothing of a controversial film and some fine coffee.
