The ‘Woody Woodpecker’ Trailer Is as Irritating as You’d Expect
One of Jurassic Park’s more timeless lines, spoken by Dr. Ian Malcolm after Hammond explains how he brought his dinosaurs back to life, is: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Swap out “scientists” for “moviemakers,” and you have the genesis of Woody Woodpecker.
You know that big-eyed bird from Walter Lantz’s animation studio, the one with the horrible laugh? People love that, right? Let’s bring that back. The new Woody Woodpecker movie updates the colorful bird’s avian antics for 2017, with Woody scaring, chasing, and electrocuting a bunch of people trying to chop his woods down to build a house. There’s probably some environmental conservation message here, but its lost amongst all the bird poop jokes.
Fun fact: This movie was directed by Alex Zamm, director of A Christmas Prince — a.k.a. that movie that Netflix publicly tarred and feathered some of its users for watching repeatedly.
Here’s Woody Woodpecker’s synopsis:
The hyperactive red-headed bird enters a turf war with a big city lawyer wanting to tear down his home in an effort to build a house to flip.
Eric Bauza provides the cackly voice of Woody, and the rest of the cast features Timothy Omundson, Jakob Davies, Thaila Ayala, Graham Verchere, Jordana Largy, and Emily Holmes.
Woody Woodpecker was released in Brazil on October 5, 2017, for some reason, but American audiences will have to wait till it arrives on DVD and digital February 6, 2018.
