Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal Become ‘Nocturnal Animals’ for Tom Ford

Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are two of the most talented actors working right now, so the idea of them eventually combining their talents for one film just makes sense. Early last year, the actors were set to star together in Ezekiel Moss, which was intended as the directorial debut of Philip Seymour Hoffman before his tragic passing. But now they've found another opportunity to team up on the big screen with director Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals.

Via Variety, Adams and Gyllenhaal are in talks to star in Nocturnal Animals, Ford’s highly-anticipated follow-up his remarkable 2009 directorial debut, A Single Man. Nocturnal Animals was only very recently announced, but Adams and Gyllenhaal have reportedly been pursuing the leading roles since the script was first released. Gyllenhaal and Adams are both enjoying a great run of roles right now, with Gyllenhaal garnering acclaim for Prisoners, Nightcrawler and Enemy, while Adams has collected five Oscar nominations since 2006.

Since 2009, we’ve been anxious for Ford to make another feature film, and Nocturnal Animals seems like an exceptional choice for a follow-up. Based on the Austin Wright novel Tony and Susan, the project is a story packaged within a story — Susan receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, who left her 20 years ago. The narrative then shifts over to the fictional story from the manuscript, Nocturnal Animals, about a man who takes his family on a vacation that quickly devolves into a violent nightmare.

The narrative vacillates between the Nocturnal Animals story and Susan, who reflects on her own marriage, confronting terrible, hidden memories in the process. That’s a heavy concept, but one that sounds pretty damn amazing.
