Sylvester Stallone and team Lionsgate have been trying to build the perfect cast for the upcoming 'Expendables 3' for quite some time, helping to bring on both returning stars and, what Sly refers to as, "new blood." As it turns out, part of this new blood is a vampire -- or rather, 'Twilight' star Kellan Lutz.

A Lionsgate insider told The Wrap that Lutz, who played the hulking vampire Emmett Cullen in 'The Twilight Saga,' is in early talks to join 'The Expendables 3.' He'll reportedly be introduced along with a young generation of "tech-savvy action heroes" who clash with the older stars before ultimately teaming up.

Patrick Hughes is set to direct the film, which is currently set for release on August 15, 2014. Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich, Nicolas Cage and Mel Gibson are all reportedly being eyed to board as well; although The Wrap notes that, despite Stallone's recent tease, Gibson is not officially involved at the moment.

Aside from 'Expendables 3,' Lutz is currently set to appear in the title role of Brett Ratner's 'Hercules 3D.'
