Browncoats, rejoice! Even though it's been over 10 years since 'Firefly' was taken off the air, love for Joss Whedon's sci-fi series keeps on going strong. And while we might not see the series resurrected, it's coming back to life in other forms, such as the newly-announced Firefly Online social online role-playing game.

Quantum Mechanix recently announced that it has partnered with Spark Plug Games and Fox Digital to bring us a social game set in the Firefly universe. It might seem like a bit of a strange alliance since Quantum Mechanix is known first and foremost as an online shop for geeky memorabilia, but it's a welcome move.

You can try to access the official site here, but it seems to go down every other minute. Should you manage to get in, you can set up an account and reserve your spot in the 'verse.

The game will be released first on iOS and Android mobile devices, possibly making the jump to PC later on. We'll have to wait a good while though, because we won't see Firefly Online until Summer 2014.

Let us know your thoughts on this new piece of Firefly awesomeness and tell us if you'd play it.
