‘How I Met Your Mother’ Season 8 Adding New (Old) Love Interest for Robin

Because 'How I Met Your Mother' would never dare drag anything out, viewers won't have to wait long into season 8 for Robin to fall for that love interest we all remember from previous seasons...that random guy!  That's right, in lieu of the big reveal at the end of 'How I Met Your Mother' season 7, Robin will be getting 'Fairly Legal' with a new love interest, one we've actually seen before!

TVLine reports that former 'Battlestar Galactica' and current 'Fairly Legal' star Michael Trucco will reprise his role from the show's sixth season, as the unnamed object of Robin Scherbatsky's affections. Trucco had been introduced in season 6 with the intent of sticking around for a few episodes, but when USA's 'Fairly Legal' was taken to series, the actor became unavailable to continue his mysterious role.

Season 7 finale "The Magician's Code" may have revealed that - SPOILER ALERT - Robin would end up as Barney Stinson's bride one day, but it certainly isn't a development that takes place overnight.  As executive producer Craig Thomas said of the coming season back in May:

We’re going to introduce a new love interest for Robin right away.  It’s not going to be Barney and Robin together immediately, because they’re too tangled up in other things… We’ll show you how that [new] relationship ends up leading her back to Barney.

This time around, Trucco is set for a multi-episode arc, which hopefully doesn't bode poorly for the fate of 'Fairly Legal,' which wrapped up its second season back in June.  In any case, 'How I Met Your Mother' is still going strong, with talks of a ninth season recently begun.  Joy.
