Jamie Dornan Reportedly in Talks for ‘Robin Hood: Origins’
Because the world is just clamoring for more origins movies and more Robin Hood movies, Lionsgate is planning to kill two birds with one stone with Robin Hood: Origins, about the titular legendary outlaw and his band of merry men who steal from the rich and give to the — you know. The film is gathering together a cast, and now it looks like Mr. Christian Grey himself, Jamie Dornan, is in talks to star in the film.
According to Variety’s sources, Dornan will be playing Will Scarlet, traditionally depicted as the youngest member of the group, hotheaded, but good with a sword. His trademark is his red silk clothing, hence the name. Dornan seems to be a little old for the role if the film was going the traditional route, so we should probably get ready for a depiction of the character that’s a little different. (More like Fifty Shades of Scarlet, eh? Ehh?) Robin Hood: Origins already looks like it’ll be taking a few liberties with the legend, as THR initially reported back in January that this “gritty, revisionist take” on Robin Hood will be dystopian and futuristic. Which, admittedly, is a version we haven’t had yet, so maybe there’s hope for those of us who’ve already reached peak Robin Hood-saturation levels.
Robin Hood: Origins does not currently have a release date, but filming can’t be far off. Kingsman’s Taron Egerton will be playing the title role, with Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and Jamie Foxx as a “battle-hardened but war-weary” Little John, with Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst helming the project.
