Dukes of Hazzard

Jody Hill, best known for creating and directing 'Eastbound and Down' and 'Observe and Report,' has a certain genius for portraying delusional redneck-y types, best personified by frequent star and collaborator Danny McBride. So who better to take on 'Dukes of Hazzard' than Hill? Who?

To be fair, from what The Hollywood Reporter is saying, Hill's project has similarities to 'Dukes of Hazzard,' but may not actually be a reboot. He's writing an action movie set in the south starring a duo, with an eye towards doing something Sam Peckinpah-ish. That it's at Warner Brothers, and that it's with producer Billy Gerber (who also produced the previous 'Dukes of Hazzard' film) makes it a natural fit, and with branding what it is these days, it wouldn't be a surprise.

It would be a quick reboot, as Warners tried to relaunch the characters in 2005, with Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson as the Duke family. That film was also successful enough to spawn a direct-to-video sequel. Hill is coming off of three very successful seasons of 'Eastbound' so one would think he'd be eying an R-rated movie (especially with the Peckinpah talk), which may play against the network television sensibilities of the TV show. Though a Hill version may lead to its female lead finally getting out of her Daisy Dukes.
