Once upon a time 'John Carter' was expected to be this marvelous Disney hit but then it crashed and burned on its opening weekend. Now we're just days away from the Blu-ray/DVD release, but what kind of deleted footage will we see and would it have made the film any better?

One of the extra scenes that you can see on the upcoming 'John Carter' Blu-ray is an alternative opening to the entire film, as narrated by Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). There's several other deleted scenes, some of them not entirely finished, that you'll be able to see on the Blu-ray/DVD but this one is especially important because it almost made the final cut.

In the opening scene, which you can watch below courtesy of EW, we get a better look at the opening scene that Disney ultimately decided was too slow and asked director Andrew Stanton to cut from the film. The scene actually plays out fine, getting some exposition out of the way so that way the audience wouldn't have been completely confused later on in the story. (Parts of this scene were edited into later parts of the movie.)

If you want to get your hands on the 'John Carter' Blu-ray/DVD, be sure to grab a copy when its released in retail stores this Tuesday, June 5th.
