‘Jurassic World 2’ Taking a Cue From ‘F8’ for an ‘Epic’ Submarine Scene
It’s as if Oprah burst through the doors of Universal Studios and started screaming, “YOU get a submarine, and YOU get a submarine, and YOU get a submarine!!!” Actor Kevin Layne recently revealed that the upcoming Jurassic World sequel, much like The Fate of the Furious, is going to have an “epic” submarine sequence. And I’m willing to bet it features at least one dinosaur.
Layne talked to CinemaBlend about landing a role in the movie, and said he was extremely excited to be playing a submarine captain.
I read for two parts, and ended up getting the role of 'submarine pilot', which was the role I wanted as it is quite an epic scene. So I should have a nice cinematic moment on screen in a massive studio film.
Any “epic” scene in a movie with the word “Jurassic” in the title is bound to feature some dinos. Layne also told Management in Stage Film and Television that he hopes he’ll be working with a CGI rig in a scene featuring some of those lizards.
Filming starts in May. Hopefully I’ll be in one of their amazing contraptions, pretending that there's dinosaurs around me. I’ve never worked with CGI before so it’s fun and challenging. But I can now say to people, ‘You know there's no dinosaur there right?’
There’s one dinosaur that I am willing to put money on for this scene: Jurassic World’s Mosasaurus. We know that the park is probably (hopefully definitely) closed after the terror wreaked by a giant Tyrannosaur-raptor hybrid, which means that some of the enclosures have probably broken down by now. Since the park is on an island, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue for land-dwellers like the T. rex, but the island also had pterosaurs and one mighty large ocean-dwelling monster. We last saw him/her chowing down on the boys’ babysitter, and maybe, with a little intuition and a conveniently cracked tank, it might’ve gotten out into the world’s oceans and is ready to start munching on some submarines, Attack of the Clones style. Better look out, Nessie.
Jurassic World 2 hits theaters June 22, 2018.
