New ‘Kingsman’ Featurette Claims the Imminent Eclipse is Marketing for ‘The Golden Circle’
Studios have a few avenues to go when it comes to promoting their movies. There’s the standard billboard and TV commercial combo, there’s hyping trailer releases, there’s hyping the teaser to the trailer release that hypes the trailer release, there’s abstract viral marketing, and then there’s creating extremely rare astronomical phenomena. Which is exactly what Kingsman: The Golden Circle is going to do.
When that eclipse rolls around on Monday and the moon blocks out the light from the sun in a giant path of darkness and terror that’ll stretch all across the continental United States, everyone will look up into the sky and think of Kingsman: The Golden Circle. A new featurette claims that the entire event is actually a promotional campaign orchestrated by Fox advertising executives. Can they do that, you ask? Well, there’s no law that says they can’t.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service" introduced the world to Kingsman - an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents' strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that's becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy...
Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters September 22.
