The trailer for the adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's acclaimed novel 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' premiered during the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show. Watch Emma Watson and Logan Lerman navigate the murky waters of adolescence -- in a movie, of course.

The first trailer has arrived courtesy of MTV, and with it a lovely glimpse into the world of Charlie (Lerman), the film's titular wallflower and protagonist, as he meets new friends (Watson and Ezra Miller) and starts to emerge from his delicate shell.

'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' was written by Stephen Chbosky and fittingly published by MTV. Chbosky wrote and directed the adaptation himself -- a rare sight in the world of bringing books to screen. In the book, Charlie writes about his experiences coming of age from 1991-1992 in a series of letters. In the trailer we get a peek at how that concept is integrated into the film, but we're curious to know more.

Lerman's certainly a talented actor, whose abilities have floundered in films like 'Gamer' and Paul W.S. Anderson's period piece nightmare 'The Three Musketeers.' Watson is still delightfully escaping her 'Harry Potter' beginnings, following last year's appearance in 'My Week With Marilyn.' She'll also star in Sofia Coppola's 'The Bling Ring.'

Check out the first trailer below -- a heart-swelling ode to adolescence that has us incredibly excited for more. The film hits theaters September 14th, appropriately timed for the return to school in the fall.
