Achievement unlocked for Fred Dekker, as the screenwriter reveals that he’s officially turned in the finished screenplay for director Shane Black’s upcoming Predator sequel. Plot specifics are still unknown, but Black and Dekker (yes, we know) should be getting to work on the next installment in the franchise relatively soon, having recently completed work on Edge, their western miniseries pilot for Amazon.

Dekker, best known for writing and directing ’80s classics Night of the Creeps and Monster Squad, announced the completion of the Predator sequel screenplay on his Facebook page with a pretty adorable doodle:

The writer is teaming with director and co-writer Shane Black for the sequel to 1987's Predator and 1990's Predator 2. Black had a supporting role in the first film and did some uncredited rewriting on the script for director John McTiernan, making him quite familiar with the franchise.

While we don’t know much about the new sequel, producer John Davis previously said that Black and Dekker’s screenplay is “genius,” and called it a “fresh” reinvention of the series. This is the first time we’ve gotten an update on the film since then.

In addition to Edge, Black also wrote and directed the upcoming crime film The Nice Guys, starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. That film hits theaters in 2016, and while the new Predator sequel doesn’t have a release date just yet, the duo should be heading into production some time next year.
