Prince, Legendary Musician, Dead at 57
Prince, legendary musician and actor from Purple Rain, has died, according to TMZ. He was 57.
A rep for Prince has confirmed to the Associated Press that the singer died in his suburban Minneapolis home. Authorities were previously investigating a death a Paisley Park in Minnesota, near Prince's recording studios.
The singer was hospitalized last week following an emergency landing. A rep previously told TMZ that Prince was sick with the flu for several weeks.
Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958, Prince's contribution to music was monumental, to say the least. His influences on everything from funk to R&B to pop can be heard across his impressive discography that includes 39 studio albums and four live albums. Over the course of the musician's early 40-year career, he earned 32 Grammy nominations and seven wins, and also won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for his Purple Rain album. Prince also made his name in the film world, starring in the semi-autobiographical Purple Rain, 1986's Under the Purple Moon and 1990's Graffiti Bridge.
In March, Prince revealed plans to pen an autobiography to be titled The Beautiful Ones. According to Vanity Fair, his memoir would have charted what he said was his very first memory up until his 2007 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Last week during an appearance at Paisley Park following his hospitalization, Prince told his fans, “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers." Instead of mourning his loss, Prince would probably prefer we celebrate his life and the unforgettable art he left us with. In the words of "Let's Go Crazy," Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.
