Just last month, we were led to believe that 'Prometheus 2' had a script and that it was "incredible." This was at least according to star Noomi Rapace who was set to return in the sequel. Today we have a report of a wildly different story. One in which Fox and director Ridley Scott have absolutely no idea how to continue the franchise with the planned trilogy.

As the story goes, Damon Lindelof convinced Scott and Fox to ditch the planned ending of 'Prometheus' (which would have more neatly tied the film into the opening of 'Alien') for something different; something that would launch a brand new trilogy. This was all well and good but when 'Prometheus' hit theaters and faced a wave of criticism, Lindelof decided he didn't want to return for 'Prometheus 2' and this left Scott wondering how they hell he was going to make a sequel.

According to Bloody Disgusting, in the months since 'Prometheus' hit theaters, Fox executives are "freaking out" because neither anyone in-house nor Scott himself have any solid ideas on how to make a 'Prometheus 2.' The report claims that Fox has taken meetings with "basically anyone" with the hopes that someone out there can crack the 'Prometheus 2' code.

At this point we have to be left wondering why they're forcing a 'Prometheus' trilogy. Despite it's many flaws, the original isn't a horrible movie (just a confused one) and would be fine left on its own. Trying to double down on the original with 'Prometheus 2' would only compound the problems of the first film. It's time to walk away and admit that the film was a moderate financial success and a critical disappointment with a mild cult following. Not everything needs to be a trilogy, you know.
