'Red’ was a pleasant surprise for Summit Entertainment. Sure, the cast was top notch. But do audiences really want to see Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Dame Helen Mirren wielding hand cannons as semi-retired Black Ops agents called back into action for one more mission? Turns out, they do. And now they’ll get even more.

‘Red 2’ circled Aug. 2, 2013 as its planned release date, and is starting to out its pieces together as it heads into production. ‘Fun with Dick and Jane’ director Dean Parisot will helm the sequel, which is expected to reunite Willis, Freeman and Mirren for another adventure. And this morning, Summit reveals that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee have been added to the ensemble, possibly as villains. Erik Feig, President, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Production says:

"We had so much fun making 'RED' and seeing that amazing cast assembled together – and so did consumers: over $200m worldwide and the number one home entertainment rental of last year. We can't wait to bring them back together, give them some new friends, and show they ‘still got it."

The release says that the original ‘Red’ team will move to Europe to face a new challenge. Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the original ‘Red’ script, are back for the sequel, and will continue to base the story on the popular graphic novel from Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer.

Tell us: Were you clamoring for more ‘Red’ stories? Do you think there’s still gas in the tank? And do you like the additions of Zeta-Jones and Lee to the franchise?
