Congratulations are in order for 'Sex and the City' star Cynthia Nixon, who married her longtime girlfriend, education activist Christine Marinoni, in a legal ceremony in New York City on Sunday.

People reports the Emmy and Tony-winning actress, 46, "wore a flowing, pale green gown by Carolina Herrera and carried a bouquet of white peonies. Marinoni, 45, wore a suit with a darker green tie for the ceremony."

The couple have been together since 2004 and got engaged at a same-sex marriage rally three years ago, but Nixon vowed they wouldn't tie the knot until gay marriage became legal in their home state of New York. Once that happened last summer, the wedding plans went into full swing.

While she's probably best known for co-starring in the 'Sex and the City' TV series and film franchise, Nixon is also an accomplished theater veteran who's sometimes appeared in two shows at a time. She won a 2006 Tony for her work in 'Rabbit Hole' and was recently nominated for another Tony for her starring role in 'WIT.'

Our best wishes to the newlyweds.
