Now that 'Spartacus: War of the Damned' has officially fallen, and 'Da Vinci's Demons' has invented some of Starz' best ratings yet for an original series debut, the network has finally started plundering toward the real treasure ahead. 2014 will see the debut of the Michael Bay-produced pirate drama 'Black Sails,' but will it prove the next great historical epic, or a watered-down mess? Check out the first official trailer for 'Black Sails' inside!

Pirate movies might have fallen out of favor in the last few years, but Starz’ upcoming Michael Bay-produced ‘Treasure Island’ prequel series ‘Black Sails’ might just see a change in fortune. The new drama to plunder the airwaves in 2014 starring 'Die Another Day' villain Toby Stephens as the iconic Captain Flint and 'Shameless' Zach McGowan has officially released its first trailer, packing all the sex and action we've come to expect from a Starz series.

The series, from ‘Jericho‘ creator Jon Steinberg, centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men, taking place 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel. From the official description:

Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.
