Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time is gaining steam, with seemingly a new cast announcement every week or so. We know who some characters might be played by, but so far the film hadn’t found its protagonist Meg Murry yet. Until today, that is, when it was announced that Storm Reid will be playing the role.

A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L’Engle’s beautiful and strange book about a young girl named Meg Murry who journeys through space and time to fins her scientist father, is being adapted into a film by Ava DuVernay. Not much is known about the cast at this point, but today two familiar faces have joined the project.

The anticipation for the 2016 New York Film Festival has been high since Ava DuVernay was announced as the Opening Night filmmaker. Now that the main slate lineup has arrived, the fest looks even better.

By now you’re well-aware that Hollywood has a real problem with female directors, who are typically not given the same chances (read: jobs, budgets, et al.) as their male peers. Ditto for people of color. That makes today’s news particularly heartening, as Ava DuVernay is set to become the first woman of color to helm a $100 million dollar film — a precedent that could (and should) pave the way for studios to hand more big budget blockbusters over to women.

In its 54 years, the New York Film Festival has never opened with a work of non-fiction, until now. This year’s festival will kick off with what may be one of the most important and politically relevant films of the year, Ava DuVernay’s documentary ‘The 13th,’ about the U.S. prison industry and the nation’s history of racial inequality.

Ava DuVernay took a quick break from directing feature films after the release of her Oscar-nominated Selma, and while she’s been hard at work on various other projects (like her forthcoming series Queen Sugar), this past month has yielded great news for fans of the director eager to see her return to film. In addition to directing Disney’s upcoming adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, DuVernay has signed on to helm a new film for HBO — one that will take her into the dramatic world of high fashion.

In 2014, Ava DuVernay got the cold shoulder from the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences when they nominated her skillfully-directed, socially urgent, crowd-pleasing Selma for Best Picture but passed over her for Best Director consideration in favor of The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum, among others...

Ever since Selma debuted in December of 2014, we’ve been waiting to see what its terrific director, Ava DuVernay, would do next. Would she direct Black Panther? Would she write a screenplay of her own to direct?

We’ve been anxiously waiting for Ava DuVernay to select her next feature film project, and although she passed on Marvel’s Black Panther, the Selma director has remained very busy executive producing, writing and directing the TV series Queen Sugar for Oprah Winfrey’s network — not to mention acquiring films for her ARRAY distribution banner. It looks as though DuVerna may be close to selecting her next feature directing project, as she’s reportedly being courted for not one, but two upcoming sci-fi projects.

Well this is kind of a bummer. It’s been reported for some time that Marvel was considering Selma director Ava DuVernay to helm their Black Panther film (other reports suggested they were also considering her for Captain Marvel). DuVernay herself recently added to the speculation with a tweet referencing the superhero, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that he had met with the director and would have an announcement by the end of July.
