The 2016 Golden Globes have been nothing if not consistent with surprises, and following all the unexpected Mozart in the Jungle love, the Best TV Drama went far more reasonably. USA breakout Mr. Robot is your new winner for 2016's Best TV drama, and deservedly so.

FOX’s Empire may not be the same ratings juggernaut as its first season, but that isn’t stopping FOX from re-teaming with creator Lee Daniels for another powerhouse music drama. To wit, Queen Latifah has joined the new female-centric music drama Star, additionally casting the three unknown leads, and adding writers.

Slipping though its domination of the ratings may be, FOX’s Empire continually commands enough of an audience for creator Lee Daniels to move forward with his next music drama, the Atlanta-set Star. Pre-production on the pilot has already begun, releasing a cast list for the girl group that evidently includes a transgender woman.

The smash success of FOX’s Empire, bolstered by equally impressive debut ratings for Season 2, would inevitably spur talk of a potential spinoff series. We’ve heard a few rumblings before, but talks between FOX and creator Lee Daniels may now be heating up, placing a new Empire on the throne as early as next year, with seeds planted this season.

We’ve seen Jimmy Fallon take on the likes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and House of Cards, but with Empire Season 2 drip-dropping its FOX premiere tomorrow night, Fallon was bound to take the throne. Anticipation for Empire Season 2 grows by the day, and FOX can throw as many trailers and photos as they want without tempering fan fervor. More than just the Lyon family drama however, Empire fans want to hear the next great music from the series, and FOX has happily obliged with two new tracks developed with the aid of Pitbull and Ne-Yo.
