It’s one those true stories that no one would believe if it didn’t actually happen. In 1974, artist high-wire Philippe Petit walked across a cable strung between the two World Trade Center towers. He didn’t have permission, it was very illegal, and it took an entire team of experts to pull it off. The story was the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire and now it has been dramatized in The Walk, which has just revealed a new trailer.

Oliver Stone’s latest project is Snowden, which tells the true story of Edward Snowden, the NSA contractor who ultimately blew the whistle on the government branch, leaking incriminating classified documents to the press which revealed the NSA’s eyebrow-raising surveillance operations. He was previously the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour, and now he’s the subject of Stone’s newest narrative film, which has revealed a new image featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role of Snowden.

There’s no better way to turn any family get-together into a screaming match than to bring up Edward Snowden, the CIA whistleblower who revealed the extent of NSA surveillance on American citizens and became an international fugitive. You know, one man’s patriot is another man’s traitor and so on and so forth. Well, director Oliver Stone is looking to ruin a whole bunch of Christmas dinners this year with Snowden, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the most polarizing figure in modern American history. Consider the release of two images of Gordon-Levitt as Snowden your cue to start prepping for your next family argument.

This week sees the release of ‘Jupiter Ascending,’ the latest sci-fi adventure from Andy and Lana Wachowski. And while in all likelihood ‘Jupiter Ascending’ will not go down in history as one of the great works of its genre, the occasion of a new sci-fi epic from two of the modern masters of the form seemed like a good time to assess and celebrate the recent highlights of science fiction cinema, which has taken audiences from the furthest reaches of the cosmos to the deepest recesses of the human mind.

Goyer is involved, the project is picking up steam. Gaiman himself has been working closely with Gordon-Levitt, Goyer, and writer Jack Thorne on finally bringing ‘Sandman’ to the big screen, and he thinks Tom Hiddleston would be the perfect leading man.

If you haven’t seen ‘Man on Wire,’ you’ll have a new opportunity to learn Petit’s story when ‘The Walk,’ Robert Zemeckis’ fictionalized version of Petit’s book ‘To Reach the Clouds,’ opens next fall.
