Not long ago, Walt Disney Animation Studios was all but left for dead. Disney subsidiary Pixar was the animated world’s critical darling, and its frequent box office champ. As 2D animation began to lose favor with audiences, so did a lot of Disney proper’s offerings. But the last few years have seen the Mouse House rebound in a major way, with some of the biggest animated hits in the company’s history, including Frozen, Big Hero 6, and Zootopia, which made a whopping $1 billion worldwide earlier this year.

Drunk History has made its way around the block, from web series to Emmy nominations, and Season 4 on Comedy Central may be the most satisfied year yet. Not only do we get a first taste of Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda retelling the famous duel, but the first trailer brings a bevy of celebrities from Elizabeth Olsen to Ronda Rousey.

It was honestly surprising that it took Disney so long to add The Little Mermaid to their growing list of live-action remakes, and although it was announced a bit later than the rest of the studio’s projects, it may be a bit closer to happening than we thought. Today brings word that Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda will work on the music for the live-action retelling of Disney’s animated classic, collaborating with original composer Alan Menken.

It was Lin-Manuel Miranda himself who pointed out that the first Drunk History had already chronicled Alexander Hamilton’s rivalry with Aaron Burr, before signing on to Season 4's post-Broadway recreation. Now, Arrested Development alum Alia Shawkat and star Aubrey Plaza have landed the new Hamilton roles, along with other details of the November bow.

We’re all still collectively grieving the major cast members of Hamilton leaving the show behind, but with it, their slow TV takeover has begun. Lin-Manuel Miranda himself will even drop by Drunk History this coming season, re-telling the tale of Alexander Hamilton to boot!

For his next (potential) trick, Now You See Me 2 director Jon M. Chu is in talks to helm the long-developing big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit Broadway musical — no, not Hamilton. The other one. The Weinstein Company recently acquired rights to In the Heights, Miranda’s Tony award-winning musical about a tight-knit Dominican-American community in Washington Heights, New York.

Lin-Manuel Miranda delivered what may very well be the best Broadway musical in years with his hip-hop take on the life of Alexander Hamilton. But before Hamilton became the sort of hit that most people can only see if they’re lucky enough to win a lottery drawing, Miranda had another successful show with In the Heights, the Tony award-winning musical about a Dominican-American neighborhood in Washington Heights, New York. And it’s that musical — not Hamilton, sorry — that’s making the leap to the big screen.
